Ummm.... Why?
Well it didn't take long for my "what the fuck?" quota to be met today. Apparently, Fathead is selling a Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic Fathead this week only with all proceeds going to the V Foundation. Clearly the cause is a good one, but given that only 17 total Fatheads ($50 / pop) have been sold so as of 8:30 this morning (as reported by Mike & Mike), what the fuck was the point of this? Couldn't they just have donated a grand to the V Foundation and called it a day? I don't think it qualifies as a "cross-promotion" given the paucity (to steal a word from Bryant Gumbel) of sales to date. I think the only thing you can call it is fucking weird and kinda creepy.

Golic and Greenberg have become nauseating with the self promotion. I used to actually like listening to them until they fell in love with themselves and decided that the world wants to hear how great they are.
Dunno, so far they've sold 150 of them for a grand total of $7500. You think had they just gone on the air and said, "Hey, we know we just had an auction and all two months ago, but would about 150 of you out there mind ponying up $50 each for our pet cause?" they would have raised the same amount? Seems like if the people are willing to pay for a novelty item (probably a bunch of Deadspin-ers wanting to use them for dart practice, anyway) and ESPN is willing to give Fathead free air time, why not?
